Welcome, I'm James, an artist from the South East of England. If you're reading this you've hopefully had a look through my website and want to find out a little more about me. A career as an artist was never the intended route, infact I turned out to be rather a lazy art student, often skipping lessons for a long lunch at the pub, I think I found the curriculum too constraining and wanted to be left to paint things that interested me. Originally I was heading down the aviation route, but I hit a few roadblocks along the way. It wasn't until my future went topsy turvy I thought I'd pickup the pencil again. I listed my first drawing on Facebook marketplace for £60. I only made about £30 off it once framed, but I was chuffed I'd made a sale. It was at that point the lightbulb went off and here we are years later. As you've probably seen, I work with a wide range of subjects, branching from wildlife to aviation. Although most of my current focus and enjoyment comes from my formula one work, I took a huge love to the sport over the past couple of years and have been hooked ever since. I'd say it's now a defining part of my work and developing style. Inspiration for my work often follows my own interests or things that capture my imagination. As a young boy I'd be constantly drawing ships, cars, spaceships and about anything that you can deem cool as a boy! You'd even catch me designing my own cars or vehicles into my early teens. From then it turned to a good detention for doodling in my maths books. Much of my painting is self-taught, developing my style and abilities to where they are now has been an incredible journey, one I'm constantly pushing. It's always crazy to think that for years I only lifted pens and pencils, experimentation is a vital aspect of every artist, swapping mediums, throwing paint, you name it. I'd always find the hardest but most rewarding times are those done for client commissions, quite often it throws me off to draw subjects in a way I've never done before. There's a nerve-racking thrill to the whole thing. If I had to talk a little about my work I'd say I love the details. My paintings often don't feel satisfying without a certain level of difficulty and challenge, this comes at the expense of long painting times and an urge to paint big. So I might not make the quantity, but definately the quality. If you see any of my works in person hopefully you'd agree, some of which I can spend hours looking into. I've always been my own worst enemy. I refuse to put such a great idea on a small canvas, It's a little like a heart vs head battle, where often heart comes out on top. So what's in the future? It's a hard question to answer, but you can never dream too big. Finally, I can't talk about myself without giving thanks to the community of followers and supporters along the way, every purchase, social media comment or feedback is a beating heart that makes my work possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this far, please feel free to have a look around the site or drop me a message if you have any questions. Kind regards, James more...
