Painted on the Isle of Lewis this original watercolour is of a flock of oyster catchers skimming the ocean surface. Mounted and backed ready to frame
Hi I’m Miriam. I grew up in the Forest of Dean, my holidays were spent either in the Outer Hebrides or Wales where I was surrounded by nature and spent most of my time outdoors exploring the woods, fields, beaches and mountains. My family was very creative and so I was involved in knitting, weaving, dyeing, sewing, painting and drawing from a very early age. I studied animal behaviour followed by wildlife conservation at university in Liverpool and Chester. After joking I would love to move to the Outer Hebrides as a child, I actually managed to make the move to my childhood holiday haunt of the Isle of Lewis in the Autumn of 2017. I started selling my Harris Tweed creations and seashore Jewellery at local craft fairs. I had a long-held desire to weave Harris Tweed and through a stroke of luck was put in touch with a retired weaver, who agreed to sell me his loom and teach me how to weave. My husband then had to get busy to build me a weaving shed and studio shop in the garden! The loom was moved in over Christmas 2018 and the shop officially opened the following March. Since then the business has gone from strength to strength and I have developed the weaving, clothing ranges, accessories and bag designs, as well as jewellery and original watercolours. I am now working on building the online side of the business alongside looking after my new baby girl, born in April during the lockdown. more...
