Acrylic and Emulsion on canvas. Life by the sea came from photos, conversations, gathered objects and drawings from the beaches of both England and Spain, with family in both countries both are very close to my heart, and my family have always had jars of sea shells in their houses which I've always loved to draw. This piece became a much bigger and more dramatic form of these small drawings.

My name is Ione Milne, I'm 26 and until June this year, I was based in South-East London working as an artist and scenic artist. The works I created are abstract still lifes around the concept of home and 'homing', and how our connection to objects, patterns, colours and textures, the details within our lives, shape our sense of self. Currently, I work mostly in acrylic paintings in a small home studio, and I like painting onto wooden boards and unbleached linen or creating an abstract marbled background on canvas to arrange my compositions upon, as I want the work to reveal the process of the painting's creation, for that to become a part of the viewer's experience of it. I like to leave some of the board or linen revealed, to integrate it into the context of the painting, I also do this on canvas by building up thin layers of paint for each new object applied to the composition, so that the base patterns and colours can still be read through the subsequent layers. more...
